It has for many years been my decision not to coach or mentor fundamentalists, because I perceive that they cannot engage in open-minded and honest dialogue. Of late, however, I have realised that the fundamentalist mindset is trapped at a relatively low level of personal maturity. In socio-emotional terms, the fundamentalist operates at a level where values are defined by someone else. In cognitive terms, they operate at best at a level of formal logic, in which the structure and the content of issues are separated, rather than in a systemic manner.
