Many people are unclear about what makes a real team and use the words "group" and "team" inter-changeably. A team is not just any group working together and groups do not become teams simply because someone labels them a team. Building a team is a developmental process that requires time, effort, discipline and practice.

Fortunately, it is possible to develop a group into a team by identifying the characteristics which differentiate teams from groups and building those characteristics into working practices.

Different phases of the process require different approaches, leadership styles, exercises and tasks. To succeed, three questions need to be answered:

  • what are the characteristics of high performing teams?
  • what resistances need to be recognised and overcome?
  • what do we need to do to succeed?

This programme is aimed at giving common sense answers to those questions and showing how to put the results into practice.
