There are 4 X 1 hour online courses which are to be completed as a pre-requisite to face to face training.  These are:

  • Introduction to verification principles
  • ARB requirements of Offset Project Verifiers
  • ARB requirements of Offset Project Registries
  • The role of Offset Project Verifiers and Registries in Fraud Prevention

Face to Face

There are two courses which must be completed:

  • General Verification Principles (1 day)
  • General Project Verification (1 day)

Followed by a choice of Offset Compliance Protocols:

  • Mine Methane Capture Projects
  • U.S. Forest Projects
  • Livestock Projects
  • Ozone Depleting Substances
  • Rice Projects (New for 2015!)

Optional for verifiers, mandatory for registries:

  • Offset Project Registry training (2 days)

Course Objectives

Each course has specific learning objectives which are summarized at a high level here:

Verification Principles

  • Describe the legal context for Offset Project Verifications from global level to state level
  • Explain the process by which a compliance protocol credit is created and issued
  • Identify and discuss the role of the key players in the Offset Verification program
  • Describe the links between the key players in the Offset Verification program
  • Use key verification principles to make verification decisions
  • Conduct a high level strategic analysis and risk assessment, including some calculations
  • Identify the key documents used by verifers and verification bodies in doing their work
  • Explain the key elements of the role of a verifier and verification body

Offset Project Verifications

  • Discuss the qualification and accreditation requirements for Verifiers and Verification bodies
  • Identify and explain the key submissions and the timelines involved
  • Explain the structure of an Offset Project Verification Body
  • Explain the conflict of interest requirements
  • Identify the key roles and responsibilities of Verification professionals including, lead verifiers, independent reviewers,
  • Discuss the key elements of Offset Verification Services
  • Identify and explain key requirements of Offset Verification Services, including:
    Verification Plans
    Sampling Plans
    Issues Logs
    Offset Verification Statements
    Offset Verification Reports
  • Complete a workshop on Offset Verification Services including producing planning, issues logs and an opinion and report

For Each of the Protocols

  • Describe the background and legal context of the Offset Project Compliance Protocol
  • Explain Project Eligibility requirements
  • Describe the process of a credit being produced by the project, through to it being issued by an Offset Project Registry or the ARB
  • Explain the key reporting requirements for this type of project
  • Apply verification principles and the Offset Project Compliance Protocol requirements to a case study
  • Explain the key verification issues associated with this type of project

For Registry Training

  • Discuss the qualification and accreditation requirements for Offset Project Registries
  • Explain the relationship between Offset Project Registries and other players including:
    ARB
    Offset Project Operators/ Authorised Designees
    Verification Bodies and Verification teams
  • Identify and explain the key submissions and the timelines involved
  • Explain the structure of an Offset Project Registry
  • Explain the conflict of interest requirements
  • Identify the key roles and responsibilities of Registry personnel when registering and listing projects
  • Discuss the key elements of Offset Project Registry Services, including:
    Public listings
    Offset Project Credit lifecycle management
    Oversight requirements of Operators and Verifiers
    Reporting Requirements to ARB
  • Complete a workshop on Offset Project Services including assessing an Offset Project Data Report and Offset Verification Statement, and making a determination on the issuance of credits
